Martin the Warrior

by Brian Jacques

Considering this book was written for seven year olds, it's been a more interesting read than I expected. Martin the Warrior has been easy to read and entertaining. I'm beginning to re-learn reading for pleasure.

The story was fantastic! Still, I couldn't help thinking of J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Hobbit" as I read the long (and usually pointless) songs and rhymes that the creatures of Redwall and Middle Earth frequently break out into. Jacques' extensive and mouthwatering descriptions of breakfast, dinner, feasts and any snack became uninteresting, all be it, nostalgic.

Oh, Martin and Redwall. You take me back to the days when a two our car ride seemed like an entire afternoon and I could concentrate on things for more than fifteen minutes. Fuck computers, bro. Let's do some more reading.
